Genome-Resolved Metagenomic Analyses Reveal the Presence of a Putative Bacterial Endosymbiont in an Avian Nasal Mite (Rhinonyssidae; Mesostigmata)

چکیده
Rhinonyssidae (Mesostigmata) is a family of nasal mites only found in birds. All species are hematophagous endoparasites, which may damage the cavities birds, and also could be potential reservoirs or vectors other infections. However, role members as disease wild bird populations remains uninvestigated, with studies microbiomes being almost non-existent. In mite (Tinaminyssus melloi) from rock doves (Columba livia), previous study evidence highly abundant putatively endosymbiotic bacteria Class Alphaproteobacteria. Here, we expanded sample size this (two different hosts- ten two independent samples per host), incorporated contamination controls, increased sequencing depth shotgun genome-resolved metagenomic analyses. Our goal was to increase information regarding its putative endosymbiont. We obtained metagenome assembled genome (MAG) that estimated 98.1% complete containing 0.9% possible contamination. Moreover, MAG has characteristics typical endosymbionts (namely, small an AT bias). Overall, our results support presence endosymbiont, first described for avian date, improve overall understanding microbiota inhabiting these mites.

Bacterial DNA Sifted from the Trichoplax adhaerens (Animalia: Placozoa) Genome Project Reveals a Putative Rickettsial Endosymbiont
Eukaryotic genome sequencing projects often yield bacterial DNA sequences, data typically considered as microbial contamination. However, these sequences may also indicate either symbiont genes or lateral gene transfer (LGT) to host genomes. These bacterial sequences can provide clues about eukaryote-microbe interactions. Here, we used the genome of the primitive animal Trichoplax adhaerens (Me...

15 صفحه اولThe 160-kilobase genome of the bacterial endosymbiont Carsonella.
Previous studies have suggested that the minimal cellular genome could be as small as 400 kilobases. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of the psyllid symbiont Carsonella ruddii, which consists of a circular chromosome of 159,662 base pairs, averaging 16.5% GC content. It is by far the smallest and most AT-rich bacterial genome yet characterized. The genome has a high coding density (...
